Steam has released its list of the best-selling games in August and it’s no surprise to see that Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition and Fall Guys ranked highly among the top sellers.

Many of August’s top releases featured games from studios with their first-ever release on Steam, including Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition, Panache Digital Games’ Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, Thorium’s UnderMine, and many more.

  • The Henry Stickmin Collection
  • Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition
  • Risk of Rain 2
  • Factorio
  • Microsoft Flight Simulator

Among the successes are Fall Guys, which had a recent mid-season update to add some variety to the existing lineup of courses, including a giant hammer simply named Big Yeetus. With a medieval-themed Season 2 for Fall Guys right around the corner, we’ll see if it can continue hitting the Steam charts for months to come.

Also released early in August was the long-awaited PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn, which features a host of improvements over its PS4 counterpart including updated visuals, ultrawide monitor support, unlocked framerates, and more. Horizon Zero Dawn has sold over 10 million copies on PS4 alone and is sure to add to that total now that it’s available to a new audience on PC.

Steam determines the top games sold each month “by looking at revenue generated during the two weeks following each game’s release,” meaning these are games that made a big initial splash in sales immediately following launch.

Other notable titles that sold well during August were Factorio, which saw its official 1.0 release following an extensive early access period that lasted over four years. Microsoft Flight Simulator took to the skies allowing players to fly virtually anywhere in the world in real-time thanks to 2 petabytes of map data provided by Bing. In our review of Microsoft Flight Simulator we said it “is the most awe-inspiring simulation [we’ve] ever experienced.”

Besides Horizon Zero Dawn, Sony is exploring the idea of bringing additional first-party games to PC. Currently, the only way to play many of PlayStation’s best games is through its streaming service PS Now, which offers a library of over 800 titles.
