Minecraft Earth is now live in London and Seattle, allowing early beta testers to bring their blocky builds into the real world using AR technology.

The Beta is closed, meaning only a handful of people are currently able to play – though Mojang says more cities should go live in “the next few days.”

The first few gameplay impressions players have posted show a setup similar to titles like Niantic’s Pokémon Go. You can stroll through your local neighbourhood and use your smartphone to explore a virtual version of the area peppered with items and mini-games.

Like Harry Potter: Wizard’s Unite’s confoundable mechanic, Minecraft Earth will eventually have “adventures” where opportunities pop up on the map to fight monsters or gather resources. However, this and the game’s in-app store are currently unavailable for the beta. Instead, the beta focuses on introducing the game’s build mechanics.
