The new Overwatch 2 beta follows the closed alpha test held back in late April, which saw the series hit peak Twitch viewership. Since then, Blizzard has announced that the PvP portion of Overwatch 2 will release into early access on October 4 and that it will be free-to-play.
In development for several years now, Overwatch 2 has gone through several major changes, the most notable of them being the decision to release the game’s PvP and PvE sections separately. Overwatch 2 is also reconfiguring team compositions to be 5v5 instead of 6v6 while also retooling its existing roster of heroes.
Lots more Overwatch 2 info will be revealed during the game’s showcase event on June 16. Until then, keep an eye on IGN for all of the big announcements as the Summer of Gaming continues.
