The Last of Us Part 2 returns to the world of Ellie and Joel, but not everything is coming back. Multiplayer for one, will not be a part of The Last of Us 2 experience.
In an interview with USG, Naughty Dog lead game designer Emilia Schatz explained the decision to not include a multiplayer mode in the highly-anticipated The Last of Us sequel. “We’re focusing on a single-player experience, so we’re just making a single-player game for this,” Schatz said.
The news comes as a bit of a surprise as The Last of Us 2 co-director Anthony Newman told Polygon in an interview from 2018 that there would be multiplayer in the sequel. Either Newman misspoke, or development plans changed between then and now. IGN has reached out to Sony for confirmation, but you can watch our video preview above.
