If there’s one indisputable fact about video games in 2018, it’s this: Fortnite is doing really, really well. It’s done so well, in fact, that Bloomberg now says developer Epic Games is worth between $5 billion and $8 billion.
Although it’s not known precisely how much Fortnite has fueled that valuation, it’s clearly played a major role in it. But, as Bloomberg pointed out, it is known that Chinese company Tencent Holdings Ltd. purchased 40 percent of Epic in 2012 for $330 million, when the entire company was worth $825 million. That means Epic has gained up to seven billion dollars in value in about six years.
